Liga III is the third level of the Romanian football league system. Its name was changed from Divizia C into Liga III before the start of the 2006-07 season.
Contents |
Liga III has six parallel regional divisions, each with 12 teams.
The winners of each division get promoted to the Liga II.
The bottom four teams from each division are relegated at the end of the season to the county football leagues (Liga IV). From the 12th placed teams, another three are relegated. To determine this teams, separate standings are computed, using only the games played against clubs ranked 1st through 11th.
Starting with the 2010/2011 season, Liga III reduced its teams, from 108 to 96.
Starting with the 2014/2015 season, Liga III will have only three divisions of 20-22 teams each.[1]
